This month’s member spotlight is Alexa Carten. Alexa is one of our newer members joining us in January 2019 after earning her Emergency Medical Technician Certification in 2017. Alexa got involved with EMS her sophomore year of college, fell in love with it, and joined our agency due to our high call volume and opportunity to make an impact. This summer, Alexa has donated more hours than any other EMT in our organization, a total of 257 during the summer months. This averages out to over 85 hours per month, more than three times the 24 hour per month volunteer requirement. During these hours, Alexa provided 911 emergency response to over 85 incidents in our community.
Alexa recently graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s Degree in Audiology and Speech Therapy. She is currently pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant and is currently evaluating programs. When Alexa is not spending her time here, she can be found hiking and kayaking. When we ask her friends or family to describe Alexa in a few works, the more common answers are, hardworking, compassionate and helpful.
If you see Alexa on our trucks or around town, be sure to say hello.
